 About Devona Siron, LISW

After graduating from The University of Iowa in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Devona began exploring different career paths. While working for one of the biggest names in the weight loss industry, she discovered she enjoyed helping people figure out what was eating them rather than what they were eating. This sparked Devona to get a Master of Social Work degree and to become a therapist, enabling her to help people address those deeper issues.

Since 2011, Devona has been providing outpatient mental health therapy. Devona enjoys working with adults who are motivated to change. Her specific areas of practice are varied, though she continues to have a special interest in treating people who experience unhealthy relationships with their bodies and with food. Her approach is body positive, accepting, and compassionate. Devona also appreciates working with a diverse clientele. She strives for awareness of how her privileges and experiences shape her perceptions. She maintains a commitment to growing and learning from those she serves.

Devona believes her clients are the experts on themselves. This framework allows her to draw upon her clients’ unique strengths to empower and assist them in identifying their needs and opportunities for change or growth.

Devona’s therapeutic approach includes a combination of evidence-based therapy techniques including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
